Meneltarma Meneltarma, meaning Pillar of the Heavens, was a sacred mountain in the centre of Númenor. It had a flattened and broad summit, able to contain a great multitude during religious ceremonies. However no permament structure was erected there, and the ceremonies took place in open air. A requirement of absolute silence was imposed on any who climbed the mountain. The tradition was so strong and universal that even foreigners felt bound by it. Only the King was allowed to utter prayers and thanksgivings to Eru Ilúvatar, during the feasts of Erukyermë, Erulaitalë and Eruhantalë. Birds and animals did not approach the site, and only the Eagles of Manwë were seen circling over the summit. They were also regarded as sacred guardians of the mountain and all the land. The base of Meneltarma sloped gently and divided itself into five roots reaching out towards the five divisions of the land. These roots were called Tarmasundar, the Roots of the Pillar. Arandor Arandor was the important central region of Númenor, around the island's capital at Armenelos. It was almost landlocked, but it met the Sea in the far east, where the great port of Rómenna lay. Emerië A region of the Mittalmar in central Númenor; Emerië was the location of the White House of Erendis, Queen to Tar-Aldarion. It was a land of green grass and rolling hills, and many sheep were herded there. It is said that Erendis' daughter, Ancalimë, was herself a shepherdess in Emerië in her youth, for which she received the Quenya name Emerwen Aranel. Moderator: Elros Tar-Minyatur |

Nunduinë A river of Númenor, the second longest after the Siril. It flowed westward out of the central regions of the island, and as it approached the sea, its waters spread to form the fragrant lake of Nísinen. Siril Siril was the greatest of the few rivers on the island of Númenor; it rose in the valleys beneath the Meneltarma, and flowed directly southwards to come to the sea at the fishing port of Nindamos, on the borders of the Hyarnustar and the Hyarrostar. Moderator: Elros Tar-Minyatur |
